Mathematics has its own language for the most part, so it’s important you use and understand the terminology well.

Natural Logarithm – The natural logarithm of a number is its logarithm to the base of the mathematical constant e, which is an irrational and transcendental number approximately equal to 2.718281828459.

Natural Number – natural numbers are those numbers used for counting and ordering.

Negative – a negative number represents an opposite.

Net – In geometry; a pattern you can cut and fold to make a model of a solid shape; in finance,  the amount left after all deductions.

Newton’s Method – a way to quickly find a good approximation for the root of a real-valued function f ( x ) = 0 f(x) = 0 f(x)=0.

Nominal Number – numerals used as labels to identify items uniquely.

Nonagon – also known as an enneagon, is a 9-sided polygon.

Nonary – a sequence of nine numbers starting from 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 which is also known as base 9.

Nonlinear Equation – describing a curve that does not form a straight line.

Normal Distribution – the proper term for a probability bell curve.

Not Equal – The special symbol ≠ It is used to show that one value is not equal to another.

Notation – Mathematical notation is a system of symbolic representations of mathematical objects and ideas.

Nth Root – an nth root of a number x is a number r which, when raised to the power n, yields x.

Null Set – Also called the empty set is the unique set having no elements; its size or cardinality is zero.

Number – a mathematical object used to count, measure, and label.

Numeral – a figure, symbol, or group of figures or symbols denoting a number.

Numerator – the part of a fraction that is above the line and signifies the number to be divided by the denominator.

Numerical Expression – a mathematical sentence involving only numbers and one or more operation symbols.
