“My crush avoids eye contact with me, should I be offended? Does it mean they know, or that they don’t like me?“
I understand your concerns if your crush does not make eye contact with you.
You just want to be noticed by them, and it feels nice to get those personal interactions with a crush, doesn’t it?
You have to remember a couple of things;
The first is that they might not know you have a crush on them, and the second is that lack of eye contact can mean a number of things both good and bad.
Before jumping to conclusions, here is an explanation of what it may mean if your crush is not making eye contact and what you should do about it:
4 Reasons Why Your Crush Would Avoid Eye Contact With You
They Know You Have a Crush on Him and Do Not Feel the Same
A lot of crushes are aware – or at least have a good idea – when someone has a crush on them.
Even though I bet you think they have no idea.
The person with the crush (you) often thinks they are being discreet, but you are probably giving off little signals all the time that you like them.
If they do not feel the same (sorry to say this) and want to be careful not to give off any signals that they like you, they’ll avoid eye contact.
They Are Socially Awkward and Not Good at Making Eye Contact
Some people are just bad at making eye contact. Eye contact is a powerful form of nonverbal communication, and it makes some people uneasy.
It’s not just people who are distant from you or do not know you well that struggle with eye contact, either.
I have good friends that I have known for years that still struggle to make natural eye contact when talking with me.
Pay attention and find out if your crush is bad at making eye contact with most people. If they are, you know it’s not something to do with being your crush.
They Don’t Notice You
This is a hard one to take (unless you want your crush to be totally secret), but if your crush is barely aware of you he might avoid eye contact.
I see this a lot in situations where someone has a crush on a powerful, authority figure.
You need to look at this from the other side to understand why they might not be making eye contact with you.
If your crush is responsible for a large number of people, it can feel overwhelming meeting and acknowledging everyone.
Don’t be offended if they don’t notice you, it’s nothing personal.
They Can Feel the Attraction and Feel the Same
It can be confusing, but when a crush doesn’t make eye contact with you it can be because they like you – or it can mean they don’t like you.
If your crush knows or thinks you like them and they feel the same, if they are shy, embarrassed, or have a partner, they may find it difficult to look at you.
If it’s a co-worker that you secretly like, this also makes it awkward for a lot of people to react in a way that they would like.
No one wants to be the gossip of the office or make a move on a co-worker only to have read the situation completely wrong and get knocked back.
It’s up to you to read between the lines and look for more signs that they like you if you want to confirm this is the reason.
Why Does It Seem Like My Crush Is Avoiding Me?
If your crush is also avoiding bumping into you and not just avoiding eye contact, it sounds like they know you have a crush on them.
It can mean they feel the same but find it too awkward to be around you, but it can also mean that they do not feel the same and would prefer to avoid you.
I can’t tell you for sure which it is without knowing more about how they’re behaving around you, but you should be able to figure it out.
The best way to find out is to make sure you do bump into them. Try and start a conversation with them if you can.
If they act nice but nervous, it’s likely they like you.
Look for signs like looking down and not making eye contact and smiling, showing an interest in you, asking questions, fidgeting, and so on.
Do Guys Who Secretly Like You Avoid Eye Contact With You?
Some guys will avoid making eye contact with a girl they like. But before you make a move, this isn’t a guarantee that they like you.
You need to look for other body language cues that they like you, such as smiling, being nervous around you, showing an interest in you, asking other people about you, etc.
The only way to really know if they secretly like you is to start getting to know them and their friends better.
If a guy likes you, he wants you to notice him and wants to get to know you better. You don’t have to flirt, something as simple as making a little friendly conversation will do.
I bet it will not take long for either the guy or one of his friends (if he has friends!) to tell you he likes you!
