Does your wife want to pierce your ears?
This is an interesting position a lot of men find themselves in and it causes some men quite some anxiety.
The bottom line is that you should only have your ears pierced if you want to, and it’s something you feel comfortable doing.
Don’t be pressured into it by your wife. It’s also important you figure out why your wife wants to pierce your ears – as well as if she wants to do it herself!
Should Men Get Their Ears Pierced?
The answer to this is simple; if you want to get your ears pierced, you should do it.
Sure, there are still some cultural and social implications, but at the end of the day it’s your body and you’re free to express yourself how you want to.
What you absolutely should never do is be pressured into having your ears pierced.
It’s still quite the statement for men, and it’s not going to go unnoticed. If you’re not comfortable with the attention it’ll bring, don’t do it.
If you’re on the fence or a little nervous, I’d also say go for it. Even if you get your ears pierced and later regret it, it’s not the end of the world.
Unless you use tubes or some modification that increases the size of the piercing hole, you should be able to remove your earring and the hole will barely be noticeable.
It’s not completely reversible, however, so it’s not a decision to rush into.

Should You Let Your Wife Pierce Your Ears?
If your wife is requesting that she is the one piercing your ears, unless she’s either very experienced in piercing ears, or a professional, don’t let her do it.
Piercing an ear is not exactly a complicated procedure, but there are still a couple of things that can go wrong:
- Your wife might not pierce your ear in the correct place, giving you an off-center or ‘wonky-looking’ piercing.
- There is always the risk of infection if the tools she uses to pierce your ear or the stud/earring are not properly sterilized.
Of course, I’ll leave it up to you to decide. If you trust your wife and you think it’s going to be a fun experience, good luck!
What Does a Man Wearing an Earring Mean?
The meaning and symbolism of a man wearing one or more earrings have changed over the years.
During the hippy movement, for example, a man wearing an earring was a symbol of rebellion and non-conformism.
While in the 80s and 90s, it was used to make a statement about sexuality. Then, as the 90s was coming to a close, it became a hipster and trendy thing to do.
Right now, having one or more earrings really doesn’t mean much across most countries and in most cultures.
It’s simply a statement of what your personal style is and shows you’re brave enough to express yourself freely.
Should You Pierce Your Left or Right Ear?
Back in the 80s and 90s, the ear you chose to wear an earring in said a lot of your sexuality.
If you wore an earring in your right ear, this was to make it obvious that you were gay. While wearing an earring in your left ear was to demonstrate you were straight.
This is no longer the case. At least not in popular culture, and there were no countries or areas I was able to confirm this is still the case.
My advice is to wear any number of earrings in whatever ears you want. If you like the look you should own it and be proud.
Is It Unprofessional to Have Ear Piercings?
Unfortunately, it is still seen as being unprofessional in some industries and professions to have pierced ears as a man, yes.
Generally speaking, employers are a lot more liberal, open-minded, and accepting of piercings, tattoos, and other body modifications in men than they’ve ever been.
But this doesn’t mean that every employer is going to be OK with you having your ears pierced.
There are still some employers, managers, and decision-makers with an old-school way of thinking – and there always will be.
It’s also very industry and profession-dependent. As an extreme example, if you’re wanting to be a lawyer or in a professional customer-facing role like an insurance salesperson, pierced ears might be frowned upon.
On the other hand, if you’re working in a role where you never see the public, it shouldn’t have a negative effect on you.
Or, if you’re in some kind of trendy role or an industry where piercings are common, it may even work to your advantage!

Remember, It’s Your Ears and Your Choice
I think it’s important to end by reaffirming the point that while piercing ears is not a huge life decision, it’s still a decision that should be yours.
No matter how much your wife pressures you, if you don’t want to get your ears pierced, you shouldn’t.
Your wife should respect your wishes and not keep on bugging you about it if you’re not interested. You should tell her as much if she is bugging you.
