In this post, I’ve put together a list of some common words beginning with the letter Y that are easy – and some medium difficulty.
Y is always a challenging letter to find words for, but I’ve done my best and hope you find what you’re looking for:
Easy Words That Start With Y
Yam – the edible starchy tuber of a climbing plant that is widely grown in tropical and subtropical countries.
Yard – a unit of linear measure equal to 3 feet (0.9144 meters).
Yawn – involuntarily open one’s mouth wide and inhale deeply due to tiredness or boredom.
Yes – used to give an affirmative response.
Yoga – a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.
Yolk – the yellow internal part of a bird’s egg, which is surrounded by the white, is rich in protein and fat, and nourishes the developing embryo.
You – used to refer to the person or people that the speaker is addressing.
Medium Difficulty Words That Start With Y
Yacht – a medium-sized sailing boat equipped for cruising or racing.
Yahoo – a rude, noisy, or violent person.
Yana – a member of a North American people of northern California.
Yearn – have an intense feeling of longing for something, typically something that one has lost or been separated from.
Yeast – a microscopic fungus consisting of single oval cells that reproduce by budding, and capable of converting sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
