Wondering; ‘what does ML mean in texting conversations?’
If someone used the abbreviation ‘ML’ during a text message to you or on social media you should be honored!
ML most commonly means “Much Love” or “My Love” and is used as a way to quickly pass on your love to someone special.
What Does ML Mean in Texting?
‘ML’ is most commonly an abbreviation for My Love or Much Love when used in text messages.
It’s one of the many ways you can shorten a phrase and save time and character space while giving someone your love.
My mom actually uses ML in our conversations, I think it’s something the older generation uses more than the younger generation, to be honest.
Sorry if that has offended anyone!
There is also a difference between My Love and Much Love, so it helps if you know the context when someone types it to you in a message.
But usually, you’ll just know.
My mom uses My Love, for example, while my partner might use Much Love.
But either way, it’s a nice sentiment and a way to tell someone they’re important to you.
What Does ML Mean on Social Media?
Generally speaking, ML means the same on social media as it does over text messages.
There are some exceptions, however, where ML might mean something different.
For example, on TikTok, I’ve seen ML used as an abbreviation for Money Line before on a few occasions.
This was directly referring to placing bets though, so you’ll know if you see ML used in that context.
Context is key when it comes to understanding the meaning of ML, as it is with any abbreviations, but it shouldn’t be difficult to figure out.
If you’re ever unsure, just ask the person directly. I’m sure they won’t be offended!
Examples of ML in A Text Conversation
Some examples of how ML is used in texting conversations are:
- “Chat again soon, take care, ML.”
- “Thanks for being there for me, ML to you and your family.”
- “Sending you ML during the difficult times you’re going through, don’t hesitate to call me if you need something.”
- “I had a great time hanging out last night, good night and ML.”
- “ML, my friend.”
Other Rare Meanings of ML in Texting
ML definitely means Much Love or My Love most of the time, but there is a chance that it’s used to abbreviate something else on rare occasions.
Some of the possible phrases I was able to find include:
- Mighty Long – They could be describing something that was really long.
- Milliliter – Let’s not forget the most literal meaning for ML as a measure of volume in the metric system!
- Make Light – It could be used as an abbreviation for Make Light, which means to not take a situation seriously.
Why Do Some People Use So Many Abbreviations When Texting?
The main reason people use abbreviations while texting is to save time and space.
It’s much faster to type “ML” than it is to type out “Much Love” or “My Love”, so it’s a convenient way to pass on your sentiment without having to worry about taking up too much space in a text message.
Of course, this used to be the case when there was limited space on a text message or it would cost more to send longer texts.
As well as being more relevant when cell phones were more difficult to type on.
But it’s still a habit that is commonly used today, and some people will use more text slang than others, even if it takes just as long to do so!
Another reason is that some people don’t want to type certain phrases out in full, and this might be the case with Much Love.
It’s easier and looks more casual to type ML than it is to say Much Love, and I know some people find it easier to do that.
Maybe it’s someone you didn’t know felt that strongly for you and this is their way of testing how you’ll react to them using the word ‘love’ without actually using it!
