Do you have a list of excuses as to why you’re not achieving your goals?
Weight is a sensitive issue. Have you ever said you’re the size you are because your parents are? Do you use that excuse a lot …’I’m the same as my dad’.
It’s the same when you say, ‘this is how I was brought up’. These are all excuses, as hard as that is to hear, it’s true.
Regardless of what you think your parents have or have not passed on to you, you have the power to change almost anything.
If you’re reading this and agreeing. Then immediately thinking of another reason why you can do something. Stop. No more excuses.
If you’re reading this and thinking, ‘you’re right, I can make a change’. Excellent, you’re on the right path. The path to starting to make a change.
It’s Time to Take Responsibility
The way I see it is that there are less excuses than ever before. We can no longer say that we didn’t know, or don’t have the information.
The internet brings us everything we need to know at the tips of our fingertips. Sure you need to be cautious about less than professional advice. But the internet is our greatest resource.
So it’s up to you to take responsibility. I can write about taking action all day long, but it comes down to you to take action.
Are Genes and Genetics Valid Excuses?
Earlier I highlighted how some people will use the excuse that they just follow in their parents footsteps regardless what they do.
Genetics do play a large part in our physical and mental make up. But your genetics are there for you to now do what you want with.
Genes are not responsible for our behavior. They do not determine what we believe and how we tackle problems. Contrary to what some people say, they do not determine how smart we are.
Genes do however form the foundation on which we build upon as we grow up and take in experiences.
Sure they play a part in how we think, learn, act. But for the most part, you are in the driving seat and you need to figure out what you want from your life.
Another way to harness what you were given, and add something special is to practice something I have touched on before. Mindfulness. Being more mindful and conscious is a powerful tool to direct your life in a more positive direction.
Being present in the moment and taking in all of your surroundings enables you to adapt and learn from your surroundings. You have the power to change your future, no more excuses.
