This is why I’ve put together a list of words beginning with the letter I below covering finance, economics, and general business topics – to help you find those words.
If you want to come across as professional and business-savvy, you absolutely have to use the right industry lingo. Arguably, it’s more important in the business world than most other industries.
I hope you find the words you’re looking for from the list below. I’ve added a description of each word, too, to help you better understand how you can use them – good luck!
Business Words That Start With I
Ignite – arouse or inflame (an emotion or situation).
Impact – a marked effect or influence.
Impaired Capital – a balance sheet condition where a company’s total capital becomes less than the par value of its capital stock.
Implement – the process of executing a plan or policy so that a concept becomes a reality.
Import – a good or service bought in one country that was produced in another.
Important – of great significance or value.
Improve – make or become better.
Incentive Program – a formal scheme used to promote or encourage specific actions or behavior by a specific group of people.
Incentivize – to provide an incentive or incentives for motivation and to promote business.
Income Protection Insurance – pays regular income if someone can’t work because of sickness or disability and continues until they return to paid work or retire.
Income Statement – a financial statement that shows you the company’s income and expenditures.
Income Tax – tax that’s payable on an individual’s income.
Increase – a rise in the size, amount, or degree of something.
Incredible – difficult to believe; extraordinary.
Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) – professionals who offer independent advice on financial matters to their clients.
Individual Savings Account (ISA) – a type of long-term, tax-free savings account.
Industrial Output – a measure of output of the industrial sector of the economy.
Inflation – the action of inflating something or the condition of being inflated.
Infomercial – an advertising film which promotes a product in an informative and supposedly objective style.
Informative – providing useful or interesting information.
Inheritance Tax – a tax imposed by certain states on those who are bequeathed or receive assets from the estate of a deceased person.
Initiate – cause (a process or action) to begin.
Innovative – (of a product, idea, etc.) featuring new methods; advanced and original.
Insatiable – (of an appetite or desire) impossible to satisfy.
Insider Trading – trading of stock or other securities, such as bonds or stock options, by people ‘on the inside’ who have access to private information about the company.
Insolvency – a company is insolvent when it can’t pay its debts.
Inspirational – providing or showing creative or spiritual inspiration.
Institutional Investor – a company or organization that invests money on behalf of other people.
Instructive – useful and informative.
Integrated – combine (one thing) with another to form a whole.
Interest – money paid regularly at a particular rate for the use of money lent, or for delaying the repayment of a debt.
Interest-Only Mortgage – when monthly payment pays only the interest charges on your loan, not any of the original capital borrowed.
Interesting – arousing curiosity or interest; holding or catching the attention.
Interim – relating to less than a full year’s business activity.
Internet – a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
Investigative – of or concerned with investigating something.
Investment – the action or process of investing money for profit.
Investment Trust – companies which exist to invest in the shares of other companies.
Invisible Hand – a metaphor for the unseen forces that move the free market economy.
Invoice – a list of goods sent or services provided, with a statement of the sum due for these; a bill.
Irrational Exuberance – unfounded market optimism that lacks a real foundation of fundamental valuation, but instead rests on psychological factors.
‘I’ is one of the best letters to start with if you’re looking for business-related terms, as you can see from the long list above.
For example, ‘Impact’ is a powerful business word, while ‘Interest’ and ‘Investment’ are two versatile words that are commonly used in the finance and economic industry.
