1. Operate with A To-Do List
One of the most important habits that successful students have is operating with a to-do list.
They always know what tasks they need to complete and when they need to complete them.
This helps them stay organized and on track with their studies.
To-do lists help make sure you don’t forget anything, organize your workload, prioritize, and keep you accountable.
You absolutely have to create and keep a to-do list going – and the next point will explain how you don’t leave tasks on your list forever.

2. Do the Most Important (or Difficult) Tasks First
After you’ve made your to-do list for the day or week, you need to prioritize and do the most important tasks first.
This is especially important for difficult tasks that you may be procrastinating on.
By getting these out of the way first, you’ll have a sense of accomplishment and it’ll be easier to focus on the smaller tasks.
Plus, you’ll feel better knowing that the big tasks are done and over with.
It’s a simple concept, but one that many students struggle with.
There are some tricks and ‘hacks’ students use, but I’m just going to tell you straight – pick those tasks you’re dreading and do them first.
3. Never Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Another important habit of successful students is never being afraid to ask for help.
This could mean asking a professor for clarification on an assignment, or going to a tutor for help with a difficult concept.
Or even enlisting help from professional essay writers as they have writers with experience in science fields if it’s the application of essays you’re struggling with.
Whatever it is, don’t be afraid to ask questions and get the help you need.
4. Take Advantage of Productivity Apps
There are some great productivity apps in the app store, many of which are completely free.
Evernote, Trello, and OneNote are just three of the apps I’ve used over the years and can vouch for as time-saving and productivity-boosting tools.
But there are many, many more out there.
Some of these apps have features that can help you stay organized, track your progress, and keep on top of your studies.
They’re definitely worth checking out and taking advantage of if you want to be a more successful student.
5. Live and Work in A Tidy, Organized Space
This is the habit that made the biggest difference for me personally, and the one I’m always pushing on other people.
Working and living in a tidy, organized space helps boost your productivity and motivation.
It’s just easier to focus and get things done when your surroundings are clean and organized.
There is a saying that if your surroundings are cluttered your mind will be cluttered, and I totally subscribe to this.
So if you’re studying in a cluttered room or working at a messy desk, take some time to tidy up!
6. Be Proactive
This might be the habit on this list that the most people will struggle with because it’s hard to suddenly become proactive.
So, the trick is to get there in baby steps and allow yourself time to turn yourself from a reactive person into a proactive person.
The best way to do this is to start small and work your way up.
For example, if you know you have an assignment due in a week, start working on it the day it’s assigned instead of putting it off until the night before.
Or if you need to study for an exam, start studying a little bit each day instead of cramming the night before.
You get the idea!
7. Set Short and Long-Term Goals
Last but not least, successful students set both short and long-term goals.
This could be a daily goal, such as finishing all your homework by a certain time, or a long-term goal, such as getting all A’s in your classes this semester.
But whatever it is, having goals to work towards will help you stay motivated and on track.
And when you reach those goals, it’ll give you a sense of accomplishment that’ll push you to keep going and set even higher goals.
A lot of people set themselves rewards for hitting certain goals and milestones, and this is something I used to do when I was studying.
Whatever works for you, just make sure you have some goals to strive for!
