The holiday season is fast approaching, and for most of us this means we are going to be super busy. We will be going out, meeting friends, there will be the good, the bad, and some crazy last-minute rushing.
If you’re having a good time, albeit with a little bit of the stress that comes with the festive season – it’s easy to forget what a difficult time of year it is for some.
For some the holiday season is incredibly stressful. It’s a reminder of painful memories of years gone by. It’s tough if you’re in a bad financial position. And, there is a great deal of anxiety about the New Year.
A lot of us will have been through some of these hard times. Had these thoughts, and some of you may even be in a tough position right now. So maybe this article will hit come closer to some of you that others.
To give a little help in the right direction. Maybe even inspire someone to do something special for someone else. I have put together 9 thoughtful things to do this holiday season. Doing something small can make the world of difference to someone else. Think about it that way.
Reach out to Someone You Have Lost Touch With
The holiday season is the perfect time to reach out to someone you have lost touch with and reconnect. Just write out a card or send them a little gift.
You can guarantee it will bring a smile to their face and they will appreciate it. Who knows, this may even put that spark back into the friendship and you will have a great next year together.
Help Someone in Need
I think I can go out on a whim and say that we all know someone in need. Maybe not dire need, or not in a way that everyone is aware. But if you stop to think, I know you will find someone who is in need.
Little things at this time of year makes a huge difference to people. So give up a little of your time, and maybe some cash. It’s worth it.
Let Go of Any Grudges
This is not to be confused with forgiving someone that you’re not ready to forgive. Holding grudges are bad for your spiritual and mental well-being. If you’re holding a grudge, it’s time to let go and free yourself fro the burden.
Learn how to understand and deal with things that have happened. Look forward to the New Year without a monkey on your back. You deserve it.
Treat Yourself to Something Really Nice
How often do you treat yourself to something nice? If you’ve just answered ‘all the time’, then maybe pass this one! But I am guessing most of us will not say that.
The festive season is all about buying presents for other people. How about you treat yourself to something nice too. You’ll feel a lot better for it.
Let Someone Close Know How Much You Value Them
It’s easy to forget to remind people how much they mean to us. We’re all guilty of taking others for granted at times. Yet it’s the easiest thing in the world to just tell them how grateful we are.
Whether it’s a parent, child, grandma, friend of neighbor. Remind them how much they mean to you and put a smile on their face this holiday season.
Write down What You Want from next Year
While you can set yourself goals at any time. Choosing the New Year is a tradition and as good a time as any. Write down all your goals for next year, and keep it somewhere safe because you will be looking at it through the year.
Don’t be afraid to be ambitious. Why not make next year the best you’ve ever had. Both career wise, and personally.
Teach Yourself Something New
There are few things more rewarding than learning something new. You should already have this as part of your ongoing self development. But if not, pick something you have always wanted to know how to do and start learning.
Who knows, this time next year you may be able to speak fluent Spanish, know how to build a website, or something else practical and fun.
Thank Someone Who Taught You Something This Year
Have a think about what valuable lessons or skills you learned this year. I bet there are various things you have learned that could do with letting someone know you appreciate it.
You don’t have to go over the top. Just a simple email, text message, or thank them in person. And, with that in mind why not pass on the favor and teach someone else something new this year.
Spend Time with Family
The holiday season is the only real decent break from work a lot of people have. So what better time to spend some of it with family.
Go grab a coffee, do some shopping, or just visit them at home. It’s times like this we look back on when we’re too busy to spend time with them.
Whatever this time of year means to you. However you’re feeling or doing. Making a difference to yourself and others is in your hands.
It takes very little time or effort to carry on one or more of the above. So do something thoughtful this holiday season and make a difference.
