What to Expect from Your Journey of Self-Development

I have been on a journey of self-development for many years now. I started this blog to help other with their own journeys. So we can tackle problems together. Share experiences, and help each other.

Most importantly we can make the process of working on ourselves and improving who we are easier. Sharing experiences and being honest about our own journeys is one of the best ways to help other people.

I’m writing this post to help shed some light on what you can expect to experience when developing yourself. Some of the experiences that came my way, and ways to deal with how your life will change – for the better.

Real Friends Will Rise to the Top

When we go about our day-to-day lives without using critical thinking or really analyzing what we do it’s hard to know who are our true friends. By true friends I mean those people who will never let you down or judge you regardless of your actions. You know the type, supportive, encouraging, and always understanding. They are few and far between.

As you work on yourself as a person any ‘friends’ who are holding you back will become a lot more obvious. You will spot a toxic friendship as a hindrance. You will need to either change the situation or cut some people out of your life. This isn’t as drastic as it sounds, it’s a truly liberating feeling if they are a negative influence.

You’ll Stop with the Internal Struggles

We all battle with internal struggles. Whether its doubting ourselves, facing fears, struggling to find happiness or anything else. It doesn’t matter. As you build your confidence and self-esteem through self-development you will be at peace with how you feel.

There is going to be a lot of facing up to the reality of what makes you tick, and what you need to be happy. Until you figure out your basic needs you can’t start to work on yourself.
There will always be tough decisions, and sometimes there isn’t a right or wrong answer. Being able to follow your heart and make confident decisions a wonderful part of self-development.

Good Things Will Start to Happen

You have to make space in your life to be able to fill it with something new. On a journey of self-development you will be making a lot of space, and the new opportunities will start to come your way.

Seriously. Taking control of your life and taking a step away from the safe routine of your daily life is going to present a lot of changes. What you chose to do from there on out makes the difference.

There is a snowball effect to creating opportunities and making the right decisions. Good things are going to start happening, that’s why your working on yourself. Enjoy it.

You Will Gain Some Haters

You must have seen this in some other form. The better someone does for themselves, the more haters they seem to attract. It’s one of life’s ugly sides, some people like to hate on those that are doing better than they are.

Call it jealousy, envy, it doesn’t matter. Haters get caught up with focusing negative energy at others and hold themselves back in life. You need to shed these people, distance yourself, and focus on the positive points of your own journey.

You need to be careful what you listen to. Constructive criticism is great. But comments intended to pull you down from haters is negative energy that needs to be ignored.

You Feel Genuinely Happier

If you are in the same routine as most right now. Finding snippets of things that make you happy. Like a beer with friends at the weekend, or an annual holiday. You are going to be overwhelmed with the happiness you find and feel as you work on making yourself a better person.

Other people will notice your new glow too. Especially close friends and family. People will be asking you what your secret is, why and how you are feeling and looking so happy. The answer is simple – self-development.

With a new found confidence and outlook on the world you will be seeing things differently. I always find the best in a situation and I have some awesome friends who are a similar path to me. Every day I’m happier than the day before, and I made everything happen myself. It’s the best feeling in the world.

You’re Able to Make Good Decisions

During what I refer to as the ‘robotic phase’ of my life, which was when I was deep the the rat race of daily routine I found it hard to make good decisions. I didn’t want to rock the boat. So even when golden opportunities came up I’d make those same excuses. ‘I’m too busy’. ‘What about my job’. ‘I’m not ready yet’. etc

Since I made space in my life to allow these opportunities I started making good decisions that were best for me. I wasn’t so afraid to make bold decisions, and I made my own good fortune by doing so.

Self-development means taking risks, new challenges, making good decisions, and working on being a better you. Don’t be afraid to try new things, fail, try again, and learn.

The happiness and satisfaction you will find by working on yourself is liberating and freeing. There are no other feelings like it, and no better way to feel more alive.
