Here's to Making 2016 a Year of Career Success

Looking back at 2015 how satisfied are you with your career progression? Did you achieve everything you thought you would this time last year?

Did you even set yourself goals? If not, you should do. Hopefully after reading this article you will, and more so you will follow through and have a successful 2016.

I’m going to start by reassuring you. If you’re thinking you have been here before. Looking ahead at what you want to achieve, but can’t – then you can’t. Start thinking that you can, and you will soon find out – that you can. Trust me.

Achieving success requires more than just wanting it and waiting for a luck to cross your path. You need to formulate a plan, work hard at the plan, and never give up. Never.

The good news is that you don’t need a complex plan. Keep it simple, straightforward, and you will see you plan coming into action in no time at all.

Here are some tips and advice to help you make 2016 the most successful and productive year to date!

Take a Long Hard Look in the Mirror

You need to start seeing yourself as the successful and competitive person that you are. As silly as this may sound, by looking in the mirror at yourself you can visualize yourself achieving your goals.

It’s well known that many successful people like Richard Branson, and Barack Obama look at themselves in the mirror each day and repeat a little motivational mantra. What’s good enough for them is good enough for you.

Clearly Define Your Career Aspirations

You need to know exactly where you want to be, or how are you going to plan how to get there? Write down where you want to be in one year from now. Five years, and ten years. Now you can start to map a plan of how you are going to achieve these goals.

Don’t feel guilty about setting pretty lofty goals in the future. Almost all successful people started from the bottom and worked their way up.

Know Your Competition

Competition is healthy. Plus, it’s a fact of life, you can’t escape competition. If there is no competition for a position then you have to question why. There are a few ways you can get a competitive edge over your competition. Knowing everything you can find out about them is the key.

You can start to evaluate how you stack up with the competition. Identify your weaknesses and do something about them. Highlight your strengths, and use any leverage you can find. Fairly.

Identify What Your Goals Are and Create a Plan

Goals are created to set in place what you are working to achieve. Goals need to be achievable, albeit very difficult to keep you on your toes.

Goals ensure you keep on a steady course. You can either set a few smaller stepping stone type goals. Or go for that big goal. It depends on your personality and what gets you more motivated.

Stop Putting It off and Start Today

Procrastinating is the root of all evil. Just think about what opportunities you have missed while you slept in, or didn’t take that punt on something you were unsure about.

Career successes are won and lot on being proactive. There really is no time like the present. Sign up for that training course today, apply for that promotion or job you want, start making things happen.

Celebrate Hitting Goals and New Successes

There is nothing wrong with giving yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. What’s the point in all the hard work if you’re not going to be the one enjoying it most, right?

Treat yourself to something nice and keep the motivation going. You will earn the respect and congratulations from your peers. You don’t need to go looking for it.
