In this article, I’ve put together a list of business words that start with O to help you find the perfect business-related words you’re looking for.

I know how important it is to use the right words, at the right moment. Especially so in the business world as it helps evoke the right actions and emotions.

There are some specific words and terms spanning finance, economics, and business in general. I’ve done my best to capture as many of them as possible for you.

Business Words That Start With O

Objective  – specific, measurable results that companies hope to maintain as their organization grows.

Obsession – a state of hyperfocus on creating a better customer experience from the customer’s perspective.

Obsolescence  – a notable reduction in the utility of an inventory item or fixed asset.

Obtain – to gain or attain usually by planned action or effort.

Office For National Statistics (ONS) – the executive office of the UK Statistics Authority.

Office Of Fair Trading (OFT) – a non-ministerial government department of the United Kingdom.

Offshore Account – an account that is set up in a different country from the country of residence, and it’s usually meant not to do any economic activities in that particular country.

Oligopoly – a market characterized by a small number of firms who realize they are interdependent in their pricing and output policies.

Open Market – an economic system with little to no barriers to free-market activity.

Open-End Credit – any type of loan where you can make repeated withdrawals and repayments.

Open-Market Operations – refer to central bank purchases or sales of government securities in order to expand or contract money in the banking system and influence interest rates.

Operating Cash Flow – the net cash generated from a company’s normal business operations.

Operating Costs – the ongoing expenses incurred from the normal day-to-day of running a business.

Operating Profit/Loss – the profit (or loss) arising from the manufacturing and trading operations of a business.

Optimize  – the process of identifying and implementing new methods that make the business more efficient and cost-effective.

Option – a contract which conveys its owner, the holder, the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an underlying asset or instrument at a specified strike price prior to or on a specified date, depending on the form of the option.

Order – a stated intention, either spoken or written, to engage in a commercial transaction for specific products or services.

Ordinary Shares – also called common shares, are stocks sold on a public exchange.

Organization For Economic Cooperation And Development – an international organization that works to build better policies for better lives.

Organisation Of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) – a group of 13 of the world’s major oil-exporting nations.

Organizational Market – can be defined as business to business marketing or B2B marketing.

Outside The Box – to think creatively.

Outsourcing  – the business practice of hiring a party outside a company to perform services or create goods that were traditionally performed in-house.

Outstanding – very important or obvious.

Overdraft  – a line of credit on your business bank account that gives you more short-term cash flow than your business can fund from its own capital.

Overhead  – expenses including accounting fees, advertising, insurance, interest, legal fees, labor burden, rent, repairs, supplies, taxes, telephone bills, travel expenditures, and utilities.

Overprice  – the act of setting a higher price than the value of a product or service.

There isn’t a huge list of business-related words starting with the letter O, but there were some interesting and highly relevant ones I was able to find.

A few that stand out are; ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Overhead’ two terms that are commonly used in businesses, but not necessarily two words you’d want to hear as a business owner!
