Using the right words when creating business copy is incredibly powerful and important.
This is why I’ve put together a list of words beginning with the letter N below covering finance, economics, and general business topics – to help you find those words.
If you want to come across as professional and business-savvy, you absolutely have to use the right industry lingo. Arguably, it’s more important in the business world than most other industries.
I hope you find the words you’re looking for from the list below. I’ve added a description of each word, too, to help you better understand how you can use them – good luck!
Business Words That Start With N
Naked Short-Selling – where the seller has not borrowed the securities when the short sale occurs.
NASDAQ – an acronym for “National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations.”
National Debt – the total outstanding debt of a central government, comprising of internal and external debt, incurred in financing its expenditure.
National Economic Council – The National Economic Council (NEC) of the United States is the principal forum used by the President of the United States for considering economic policy matters, separate from matters relating to domestic policy, which are the domain of the Domestic Policy Council.
National Insurance – money paid to HMRC in the UK by employees, employers, and the self-employed.
Negative Equity – refers to the negative balance of the shareholders equity of the company.
Negotiation – a process where two or more parties with different needs and goals discuss an issue to find a mutually acceptable solution.
Net Asset Value – the NAV of an investment company is the company’s total assets minus its total liabilities.
Net Capital – an organization’s net worth, commonly calculated by total assets minus total liabilities.
Net Income – also called net earnings, is calculated as sales minus cost of goods sold.
Net Interest – is the difference between the income a bank earns from its lending activities and the interest it pays to depositors.
Net Margin – is the percentage of a business’s revenue left after deducting all expenses from total sales, divided by net revenue.
Net Worth – the value of the assets a person or corporation owns, minus the liabilities they owe.
New York Stock Exchange – a stock exchange located in New York City that is the largest equities-based exchange in the world.
Niche – specialized or focused area of a broader market that businesses can serve to differentiate themselves from the competition.
NIESR – abbreviation for the National Institute of Economic and Social Research: an organization in the UK that studies what is happening in the economy.
Nikkei 225 – the most recognized Japanese stock market index. It comprises Japan’s top 225 companies that are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Nominal Interest Rate – the interest rate before taking inflation into account.
Nominal Values – of any economic statistic means the statistic is measured in terms of actual prices that exist at the time.
Non-Disclosure Agreement – a legal contract between you and another party not to disclose information that you have shared for a specific purpose.
Non-Executive Director – a director who is not a full or part-time employee of the company or holder of an executive office.
Non-Operating Asset – assets that are not considered to be part of a company’s core operations.
N is a great letter to start with if you’re looking for business-related words and terms. From ‘Net’ to ‘Non’, there are loads of terms you’ll hear or seeing being used in business.
